Materials
- Worsted weight cotton yarn (approx. 200–250 yards)
- US H-8 (5 mm) crochet hook
- Yarn needle, scissors
Stitches & Abbreviations
- ch– chain
- dc – double crochet
- sl st – slip stitch
- sp – space
- Box Stitch Cluster – (dc, ch 2, dc) in same stitch or space
Instructions
Bag Base
Ch 41
Row 1: Dc in 4th ch from hook, *ch 2, sk 2 ch, dc in next ch*, repeat from * to end. (13 box stitch clusters)
Row 2: Ch 3 (counts as dc), turn, work Box Stitch Cluster in each ch-2 sp across. End with dc in top of turning ch.
Repeat Row 2 until you have 14 rows total. Do not fasten off.
Forming the Body
Rotate to begin working in the round around all 4 edges.
Round 1: Ch 3 (counts as dc), work Box Stitch Clusters evenly along each side and across corners (approx. 13 clusters per long side, 7 per short side). Join with sl st.
Rounds 2–20: Ch 3, work Box Stitch Cluster in each ch-2 sp around. Join with sl st to ch-3. (Adjust height by adding or subtracting rounds.)
Forming The Handles
Round 21: Ch 3, work clusters across 4 clusters, *ch 20, sk 5 clusters* (handle), work 9 clusters, ch 20, sk 5 clusters, finish round with 5 clusters.
Round 22: Ch 1, sc around bag edge, working 25 sc into each handle chain. Join.
(Optional): Ch1, Finish with Crab Stitch around Bag Edge.
