Flower Petals
Create a magic ring (MR) with the red yarn.
Work the following sequence into the magic ring five times:
(sc, ch 2, 3 dc, ch 2, sl st ) × 5
Pull the magic ring closed and fasten off, leaving a tail for weaving in.
Using black embroidery floss or yarn, embroider several French knots in the center of the flower to create a full, rounded center. Add a yellow French knot in the middle for a realistic finishing touch.
Weave in all ends.
(Optional) Attach a lobster clasp to the top of the flower to create a removable charm for keychains, project bags, or zipper pulls.
Stem
Join green yarn at the base of the petals.
Ch 16.
Starting in the 2nd ch from hook, sl st in each ch across (15 sl sts).
(Optional) Keychain Loop:
Ch 7, then sl st into the same joining point to form a loop.
Attach a key ring or lobster clasp to the loop.
Fasten off, leaving a tail for sewing.
Leaves (Make Two)
Ch 6.

sl st, sc, hdc, dc, (dc, ch2, sl st) in the last chain.

Tips & Variations
Gently shape each petal with your fingers after weaving in the ends to help the flower lie flat and give the petals a fuller, more natural appearance.
Try experimenting with different shades of red, coral, or even cream for a unique interpretation of the August poppy.
Looking for an even more personal touch? Pair the poppy with a handwritten note explaining its traditional symbolism to create a thoughtful handmade birthday gift.
